Linking allows you link, or copy, related data from one form to related fields of the same form, or to related fields in other related forms so you don’t have to retype what you've already entered. Which fields “link” has already been designed by the forms designer. Linked fields are identifiable by the box that surrounds the active field. If it's gray, then it's a link field; otherwise the outline is black, and it's not a link field.
To link form data, follow these steps:
1) If you're linking data only within the current form, just fill out page one of the current form. If you're linking to other related forms, fill out the entire current form.
2) To link to other related forms, you must open the other forms using the Open or New commands in the File menu.
3) Make sure the form that you want data to be linked from is in front of all other open forms.
4) Select “Link…” from the Windows menu. The Link window appears.
If you click on “other pages within this form,” linking occurs within the current form.
If you select “to all open related forms,” linking occurs within the current form, and to all open forms that are related to the current form.
5) Click on the Link button.
That's it! If you linked to fields that are part of a calculation, you should go to the page or form that received the linked data, and select “Calculate Now” from the Windows menu to update any calculations.
